How much is your time worth? This is probably a question that you don’t ask yourself…if at all. In these tough economic times many people are now finding that they are having to re-prioritise how they spend their time.

Is today your happiest day ?

Now at long last the mornings are getting a little brighter, the temperature a little higher and of course the days a little longer! So with all this good news I was a bit puzzled to hear that the unhappiest day has just passed. So when is the unhappiest day and for that matter the happiest day?

The unhappiest day - Blue Monday - falls on a Monday in January, conversely the happiest day falls on a Friday. It takes into account the likely weather, the prospect of a good weekend ahead, the fact that many people are looking forward to their annual vacation and that Christmas stress is a long way away.

It's no coincidence that the happiest day falls around midsummer; we all tend to feel healthier at this time of year. Vitamin D levels are up, we are outside and moving around more. If we have stuck to our post-winter healthy-eating regime, we are consuming plenty of sunshine salads so are generally close to our preferred weight too. All combine to make us feel good.

But with all that said housework is a chore that makes even the most cheerful of us groan just a little, here are some facts published by the office of National Statistics: Women spend nearly 3 hours a day on average on housework (excluding shopping and childcare). This compares with the one hour 40 minutes spent by men. Women also spend more time than men looking after children. Men, on the other hand, work or study for an average of nearly 2 hours a day more than women (4 hours 20 minutes a day compared with 2 hours 30 minutes for women).

Ironing clothes is the least popular activity among both sexes. Around half of both men and women who do this activity say they dislike it. Two in five men do not do the ironing and a similar proportion do not do the laundry, while the proportion of women who do not do these tasks is fewer than one in 12 women.
